Advancement Day (5/18) (optional camping until 5/19)

It's a wrap for the 2023-2024 scouting year!
To celebrate the culmination of a fun-filled year, scouts and 1 parent each (up to 100 people total) are invited to Advancement Day on May 18, 2024.

Advancement Day
Saturday, May 18, 2024

After flags, join us for the Advancement ceremony at the amphitheater to recognize all our scouts' achievements and the fabulous Den Chiefs and Leaders who've guided them on their journey!
Stay on for fun activities, dinner, s'mores, desserts, and the not-to-be-missed campfire starring our own scouts and leaders!
Wear: Class A uniform (shirt, cap, pants), on top of Class B t-shirt, and sturdy closed toe shoes (no Crocs).
Bring: filled reusable water bottle, reusable mess kit (plates, utensils, cups — no disposables please; there will be dish washing stations), sunscreen, layers as needed per weather (base layers/thermals, jacket, beanie, gloves — if cool evening expected), folding chair (optional, nice to have), and Scout spirit!

for 25 scouts and 1 parent each, up to 50 people total, first signed up first served.
Come early from 1:15pm on Saturday to set up camp if you will stay overnight.
We'll have breakfast before we clean up and pack up in the morning.

Parking
Carpooling is highly recommended.
Always back into the parking spot at all scouting events.
Campers, up to 25 vehicles, may park in the Hanna Grove parking lot. No double parking. The middle of the lot needs to remain clear for the Ranger and any emergencies.
Caravan may unload in the Hanna Grove lot, and move to overflow lots if not camping.
Non-campers may park in overflow parking lot 1, just outside Hanna Grove, or in overflow parking lot 2, which is 0.2 mile up the slope at Old Borges. No parking on the road. See parking map.
Please print and prominently display a completed parking pass on your vehicle dashboard.

Hike at Briones (March 3)

Daily park entry fee (when kiosk is attended): $3 per vehicle; $2 per dog

Discover this 3.9-km loop trail near Pacheco, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route.  A great hike through nice cool shaded groves. Briones peak offers amazing views from 1,483 feet!

Overnighter at Cal Academy (Feb 24, 25)

We're thrilled for those who will be joining us on an amazing adventure at the California Academy of Sciences - the "Penguins & Pajamas Sleepover"! 

Before You Arrive:
  • Please complete and submit a waiver of liability if you have not done so.  You can do that HERE. Our Order Number is 2974683.One attendee per waiver-- please do not put two or more attendee names on one waiver.
  • Please bring a proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of the event.
  • Packing List: Each participant should bring a sleeping bag, pillow, pajamas, comfortable walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, and toiletries. Showers are not available.  Optional items include sleeping mat/air mattress, a sleep mask, earplugs, a favorite stuffed animal or blanket for younger children.
  • Do not bring: Flashlights, tents, outside food/drink (unless related to a special diet), coolers, balloons, radios, weapons.
  • Meals: You can eat before you arrive, or eat at the Academy Café in the museum. Dinner and drinks are available for purchase at the Academy Café from 6 – 8:30 pm, and a complimentary bedtime snack is available until 9 pm. Breakfast the next day is included.
  • Parking: Garage parking is included in your ticket purchase. Bring the garage parking ticket with you to the museum for validation.  Please note that there is no overnight street parking (as per Golden Gate Park regulations).
  • Check-In: Doors open for check-in at 6:00 PM. Please aim to arrive on time to enjoy the full schedule of activities planned for the evening.  Participants can start lining up at the door at 5:00 PM.
During the Event:
  • Supervision: Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We encourage families to participate in activities together to fully enjoy the experience.
  • Activity Schedule: A detailed schedule of the evening's events, including planetarium shows, live animal demonstrations, and exhibit explorations, will be provided upon arrival. Some activities have limited space and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Safety & Comfort: The museum is a large space, so comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended. Floors can be hard and cold, so consider bringing an extra blanket or pad for sleeping.
Next Morning:
  • Breakfast & Departure: A continental breakfast will be served in the morning. After the Sleepover ends at 8 AM, the museum must be vacated to prepare for opening. Since next-day admission to the museum is included with your sleepover ticket, feel free to get your hand stamped and re-enter when the building opens to the public for the day.
Additional Tips:
  • Charge your camera or phone before arriving to capture all the fun moments!
  • Label all personal items with your name and contact information.
  • Review the museum's rules and guidelines provided at check-in to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests.
