Welcome Back Kickoff

Hi Pack 1776 Returning Families,

This email is to inform you we are holding our annual Welcome Back Kickoff from 3:00pm-5:00pm on Saturday, September 8th, at Coyote Crossing Park on Rosincress Drive in San Ramon.

The Welcome Kickoff event is where you come to welcome you back and to meet potential new parents who are thinking of joining our pack. During this time, you will have an opportunity to do the following:

  • Complete a volunteer interest form (we use this to match parent skills and interests with volunteer opportunities).
  • Pay annual registration fee of $100.00. Checks preferred, and we do not have the ability to process credit or debit cards.
  • Your boy will receive the 2012-2013 Pack 1776 T-Shirt.

For those not able to attend, please complete the form and make payment at the first Pack Meeting.

IMPORTANT:

Please open and print out the Parent Volunteer Form pages 1 and 2, as these will need to be turned in when you submit your application and payment. This year, we would like to encourage more participation in the wide range of volunteer opportunities within the pack. This document gives a description of the duties and responsibilities events and positions. If you have any questions on any of these roles, feel free to email me.

This is a very exciting time for Pack 1776. We currently have 58 active cubs and over 50 families have recently expressed interest in joining. The 2012-2013 year is filled with lots of fun things and we hope you will enjoy your return to the pack.

The First Pack Meeting is next week Wednesday, September 12th 7pm to 8pm at Coyote Creek MPR.

We look forward to seeing you at the Welcome Kickoff next Saturday and Pack Meeting next week!

Regards,

Pack Meeting – Tomorrow in the MPR April 18

Hi Cub Scouts of Pack 1776!

Don't forget, we have a Pack Meeting tomorrow, Wednesday evening at the MPR, 7:00.

Many of you will be advancing to the next levels of scouting. You have worked so hard this year in your den meetings under the guidance of our World Class Den Leaders and parents, that you have completed your achievements.

Awards Chair Ammy Pluth picked up all of the necessary awards. (She loves to shop, by the way).

Tigers are graduating to Wolves

Wolves are graduating to Bears

Bears are graduating to Webelos I's

Remember at our last meeting, Webelos I's graduated to Webelos II. Pretty cool, now it's your turn.

We will sing a couple of songs. Since you guys are grown up, I say we pull out the Marshall Amp and Gibson Les Paul, save the acoustic for camping.

Plus, Committee Chair Steve and I have a surprise graduation present for you. It's a surprise. That means you have to see it for yourself! You'll need it for our last pack meeting of the year in May.

Get Ready to Rock and Roll Forward Tomorrow!

Pack Meeting – Wed March 7 – Cake Decorating Contest!

Hi Pack 1776 Scouts and Families!

Just a friendly reminder that this coming Wednesday, March 7 at 7:00 is our month Pack Meeting Extravagana!

The big event - Cake Decorating!

"Cubmaster John, have you lost your mind?!!!"

Yes, and if any of you find it, please let me know.

Seriously, we will have our very first Pack Cake Decorating Competition. Kind of like the Pinewood Derby, but you can eat the winners.

This is a Scout/Parent procedure. The scout, under the guidance of mom or dad, bakes and decorates his own cake, brings it to the meeting. ALL ingredients must be edible. No soldiers, beyblades, plastic straws, cement. Just food - Cake mix, sugar, food coloring, marshmellows, tofu, Slim Jim beef stick, etc.

A panel of judges will pick winners in the following categories:

Spirit of '76 - Three cheers for the red white and blue. Flags, patriotic theme, etc.

Tallest - Think, Mount Everest, but edible.

Longest - Think, The Bay Bridge, but crossable

Are You Going to Eat That? - Think, most likely to be eaten because it's beautiful and looks delicious LOOKING.

Take Your Cake and Eat It! - Think, "Get that thing away from me and out of the house!" Gross, ugly, creepy, gummy worms crawling out of it, dirt made from ground Oreos.

Out of this World - Space the final frontier. Planets, stars, comets, space ships, stellar. (Stella? She IS a star!)

Cultural - We have families from all over the world, work with the scout on a cake which comes from Italy, or the Philipines or India or Greece. You get the idea. Be proud of your roots, and share them with us.

We'll add a few more categories. Winners get a Cake Decorating Patch, and special prizes. Everyone gets to have fun.

Remember:

NO Store Bought
NO Non-edible components
NO "Dad did the whole thing himself, and I'm getting credit for it" (just like Pinewood Derby, it's the scout's project)

Siblings are welcome to bring cakes too, even as small as a cupcake, but they won't be in the competition.

After, if you want to share your cake, great. If you want to bring it home and put it mnext to your Soccer Trophy, great.

Sound like fun? Be prepared to be bombarded with more reminders.

Pack Meeting This Sunday – Sunday- Sunday!

Date: Sunday, January 08, 2012
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Location: Blackhawk Auto Museum
Theme: Nitro Fueled Derby Cars!

Hi Pack 1776 Cubs, Families and Racers!

Happy New Year to you all!

This Sunday we will have our January pack meeting. To get in the spirit of the annual Pinewood derby race, we plan to host a "Down & Derby" movie matinee followed by a museum tour at the Blackhawk Auto Museum.

Ever been there?  It's just happens to be the coolest car museum in the area, and it's in our own back yard.  If you don't have design for your derby car, the Blackhawk Museum will definitely inspire our cubs.

So remember, the Pack meeting is on SUNDAY Jan 8 at Blackhawk museum from 2-4:30pm.

Start your engines, and race (within the speed limit!) to the big pack event,

Cubmaster John

The Big Event – Pack Meeting Wednesday Nov 9

Hello Sports Fans of Pack 1776,

This is just a friendly reminder, to remember, not to forget...

OUR HUGE BEYBLADES EXTRAVAGANZA AND PACK MEETING, this Wednesday, November 9, at 7:00 in the Coyote Creek MPR!!!!!

As you know, BeyBlades are today's answer to the kids' spinning tops from centuries past. These tops, however, are turbo-charged, well-engineered dynamos made of metal, which do battle like gladiators, and our scouts are big enthusiasts.

Bring your main BeyBlades, spare BeyBlades, BeyBlade Arenas and need for speed. If you don't have one, in the spirit of Scouting, our cubs with spares to share will loan you one. This is an opportunity for the scouts to have some fun and friendly competition in the name of science!

And I emphasize "Friendly" Overly aggressive Soccer Moms and fiercely competitive Basketball Dads will just have to take it outside. We Cubs are all about sportsmanship, comradery and physics. Get ready to spin, rattle and roll!

We will also be sharing candy for our troops overseas. Please bring your non-chocolate Halloween candy to the meeting as we collect treats for our brave and loyal servicemen and women, sending them a little taste of home and a message that we remember them.

Finally, we'll have special guests from the Boy Scout Troop 60, who will meet the boys and tell them a little about upcoming Geocaching events. ("Geocaching", by the way, is not the sale of rocks for big money, but a fun outdoor explorer activity!)

Looking forward to seeing you all Wednesday,

Cubmaster John

HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE AND COIN COLLECTION
December 6th - 13th

Coyote Creek PTA will be collecting gifts for our friends at Nystrom Elementary School in Richmond.

Each year we collect new, wrapped gifts that include a small toy and a healthy treat (granola bar, snack crackers, etc).

All gifts should be wrapped and labeled with the grade and gender of the intended recipient. Please look for the collection containers in the MPR and the office.

During the gift drive we will also be collecting loose change to help support the many needs Nystrom has throughout the year. Collection containers will be located in each classroom.

The children at Nystrom greatly appreciate any gift as this may be the only one they receive.

Thank you for your help and generosity!!
