Gift Drive for Nystrom Elementary

Pack 1776,

In the spirit of the holiday season, our Pack will be collecting gifts for the Nystrom Elementary gift drive.  We will collect these gifts at our next Pack Meeting on Thursday 12/09.

To participate, please have your Scouts bring a new, wrapped toy for the collection to the Pack Meeting.

Below is the original message from the PTA about this event.

Yours in Scouting,
Cubmaster Macey

HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE AND COIN COLLECTION
December 6th - 13th

Coyote Creek PTA will be collecting gifts for our friends at Nystrom Elementary School in Richmond.

Each year we collect new, wrapped gifts that include a small toy and a healthy treat (granola bar, snack crackers, etc).

All gifts should be wrapped and labeled with the grade and gender of the intended recipient. Please look for the collection containers in the MPR and the office.

During the gift drive we will also be collecting loose change to help support the many needs Nystrom has throughout the year. Collection containers will be located in each classroom.

The children at Nystrom greatly appreciate any gift as this may be the only one they receive.

Thank you for your help and generosity!!

Thank You!

Pack 1776,

Our Scouting for Food event was once again a huge success and I want to take this opportunity to thank program coordinators Stella Lei and Ada Ip, the Den Leaders and all of the Scouts that participated.

Our scouts were able to fill a 6x10 trailer with donations for the needy and this large collection made quite an impression at the Food Bank collection center.

Thank you for helping make the Thanksgiving holiday a little brighter for those that are less fortunate. This event is at the heart of what Cub Scouts is about.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families. Have a safe and wonderful holiday.

Cubmaster Macey

Scouting for Food Maps and Additional Info

Pack 1776 families,

Scouting for food maps are finalized.  Each den is responsible for an area as depicted below (click on the colored zone to see assignment).  Door hangers will be distributed to den leaders/representatives beginning tomorrow night at the committee meeting.  Participating Scouts will earn the Scouting for food patch and satisfy one of the service requirements of the Year of Celebration awards.  This is a worthy cause and I hope everyone will lend a helping hand.

Thank you.

Scouting for Food

Pack 1776 families,

More than ever before, our community needs us to "Do a Good Turn Daily"!

Our pack will be participating in the Scouting for Food event which runs from November 13th-20th. The goal is to place the Scouting for Food hangers on the front door knobs in our assigned area starting November 13th. We would then pick-up the donated items on November 20th.

Each Den must assign a Den representative to pick up maps with high-lighted routes assigned to each Den and the door hangers. Please arrange to pick them up at the committee meeting this Thursday. The Den Leaders will need to coordinate their Cub Scouts hanging the door hangers on or after Nov 13th before it gets dark. The Dens will need to pick up the donations from their assigned routes after 9:00 am on Saturday November 20th and bring it to outside Coyote Creek School’s MPR between 10 AM and 11 AM.

Den leaders should ensure that their den has representation and, at a minimum, arrange for collection of the high-lighted route maps and hangers. The den leaders are responsible for coordinating and communicating their den's participation in this event.

Here is a document regarding the GENERAL event information. (Details listed in this email take precedence.) A map of your assigned area will be given to you when the Den representatives get the door hangers. Please address any questions regarding the event to Stella and Ada and cc: Cubmaster Macey and Committee Chair Steve.

Thanks!
Stella Lei & Ada Ip

Scout-O Orienteering WrapUp

Pack 1776 families,

This past Sunday, our Pack 1776 Scouts did a fabulous job in their first orienteering event. They should all be proud of themselves for competing through the rain, past swings and goats, up and down hills so slippery they had to use a rope!

Our Pack 1776 scouts placed 17th overall among 48 total packs/troops. Each team raced to find 10 controls on Course 1, which was at least 3.9 km and had at least 150 m total climb. The winning time was 47:59 (47 minutes, 59 seconds). Here are the placements of each team out of 73 teams that competed on Course 1:

#5 Jared O & Atharv D (1:04:57 / 1 hour, 4 min, 57 seconds)
#24 Aidan L & Brian L (1:20:50)
#26 Emmett L & Austin S (1:22:33)
#28 Rohan C  (1:24:17)
#29 Jack P & Cole F (1:24:53)
#31 Jack S & Jacob K (1:25:29)
#32 David X & Ethan M (1:25:56)

Each of the above scouts received two patches and a blue scout "Do Your Best" wrist band.  Pictures have been uploaded to the Pack photo site.

If any student (elementary or middle school) is interested, there will be a free "Short Orientation To Our Interscholastic League" in San Leandro this Saturday. The volunteer in charge of the Junior League is Jan Hann and he is very thorough when teaching kids about orienteering.

If you hear of anyone who would like to continue to race in the future, please let me know. There are upcoming events in SF, Woodside, Rancho Cordova, and Los Gatos.

Thanks,
Susan Kim

Mt Diablo Camping

Date: November 5th 3pm to November 7th 12 noon
Location: Mt. Diablo State Park, Barbecue Terrace group campground (directions) (campground map)
Cost: $15 per person per night
RSVP via evite

Pack 1776,

Come join us for a wonderful fall weekend camping at Mt. Diablo. On a clear day, from the summit of Mount Diablo State Park visitors can see 35 of California's 58 counties. It is said that the view is surpassed only by that of 19,000-foot Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. With binoculars, Yosemite's Half Dome is even visible from Mt. Diablo.

We have reserved the best group camp site (BBQ Terrace) that accommodates up to 50 people. Space is limited, so please don't miss out on this wonderful camping experience so close to home.

As always the cost is $15 per person per night. Checks made out to Pack 1776 must be received by me in order to secure your spot.

Look for an eVite!
