Used Bikes Needed

News from Meridian district:

Do you have a bike that is no longer being used and just collecting dust? Or perhaps you have a friend or neighbor that might have one. Ryan Mahoney of Troop 805 is collecting bikes for his Eagle Project. The project includes repairing bikes and then donating them to several nonprofit agencies in our county. If you have a bike to donate or if you or your scouts would like to help clean and repair bikes in late November and December, contact Ryan Mahoney at [email protected] or C: 786-0640.

Fall Camping 2011 Re-cap

The Fall camping event at Historic Camp Herms turned out to be a great success and everyone had a great time!! We camped in the Redwood Grove area surrounding by Giant Redwood trees which also help provide some cover for the rain that came Friday night. Luckily, most people had their tents up in time to take cover and the rain didn’t go on too long.

We woke up Saturday and had good weather for our opening flag ceremony and breakfast where the scouts received their very own mess kits to use, clean and keep. We then had a fun filled day that included many belt loops, including Kickball led by me, Photography (every scout got their own disposable camera!) led by Harry Beck, Hiking lead by Bernard Kiriakos and the Marble belt loop lead by Ammy Pluth. We also had the Lower Field reserved nearby where the scouts had free time to play soccer, football and the always popular stick battles which included the conquering of a nearby hill.

After dinner, John Pluth led a touching flag retirement ceremony where the Webelos assisted in retiring a donated flag. John then led everyone in singing techniques and great traditional and holiday songs which allowed the scouts to get their final belt loop - Music. For those who are counting that was five belt loops this trip! We ended the night with a large campfire, great stories by the parents and kids and lots and lots of smores.

The following morning, we wrapped up the trip with breakfast and a closing flag ceremony. A BIG thank you to everyone who helped make the Fall Camping 2011 trip a great success!!

Camping Chair
Scott Spears

p.s. If you would like to bring your developed pictures from the disposable cameras to the next pack meeting, Ammy Pluth will put them up for the Pack to see.

The Big Event – Pack Meeting Wednesday Nov 9

Hello Sports Fans of Pack 1776,

This is just a friendly reminder, to remember, not to forget...

OUR HUGE BEYBLADES EXTRAVAGANZA AND PACK MEETING, this Wednesday, November 9, at 7:00 in the Coyote Creek MPR!!!!!

As you know, BeyBlades are today's answer to the kids' spinning tops from centuries past. These tops, however, are turbo-charged, well-engineered dynamos made of metal, which do battle like gladiators, and our scouts are big enthusiasts.

Bring your main BeyBlades, spare BeyBlades, BeyBlade Arenas and need for speed. If you don't have one, in the spirit of Scouting, our cubs with spares to share will loan you one. This is an opportunity for the scouts to have some fun and friendly competition in the name of science!

And I emphasize "Friendly" Overly aggressive Soccer Moms and fiercely competitive Basketball Dads will just have to take it outside. We Cubs are all about sportsmanship, comradery and physics. Get ready to spin, rattle and roll!

We will also be sharing candy for our troops overseas. Please bring your non-chocolate Halloween candy to the meeting as we collect treats for our brave and loyal servicemen and women, sending them a little taste of home and a message that we remember them.

Finally, we'll have special guests from the Boy Scout Troop 60, who will meet the boys and tell them a little about upcoming Geocaching events. ("Geocaching", by the way, is not the sale of rocks for big money, but a fun outdoor explorer activity!)

Looking forward to seeing you all Wednesday,

Cubmaster John

Halloween Pictures – Now Playing!

Hi Everyone,

Last Friday's Pack 1776 Halloween Party was a complete success! I hope you all had as great a time as I did.

Three cheers to Lisa Cheney and her team of party animals for coordinating a fun night, which flew by faster than an impatient vampire bat in hurry out of a belfrey! Great games, costumes, prizes and treats.

Many thanks to our own, hard-working Cubmaster Macey for capturing the event on film, with a thrilling collection of portraits of our cubs and families. Macey is the Wizard of Photography, and you can view his magic at our pack website on SmugMug. Go to the photo site and enjoy the show.

See you next week for our big November Pack Meeting, the Olympic BeyBlades Tournament! Watch for your e-mail-man to deliver more details.

Cubmaster John
