Friends of Scouting
On March 14, 2018, Pack 1776 will be kicking off our participation in the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council’s Friends of Scouting annual giving campaign. Friends of Scouting represents the council’s largest source of income. What does the Council provide?
- Volunteer and staff training
- Insurance coverage to protect volunteers, chartered organizations, staff members and properties
- Support staff for registration, publications and other program support
- Camp promotion for Cub Scout day camps, Boy Scout summer camps, high-adventure bases and more
- Camp rangers to keep the council camps up-to-date and ready for Scouts and families
- Camp equipment, like tents, cooking equipment, camp vehicles, building repairs, canoes, equipment replacement and repair, and general upkeep of council camps
- Recognitions for leaders who complete training, volunteer for special projects and help in many Scouting roles
- Professional staff to work with volunteers to organize new units, manage fundraising programs, conduct training, assist membership recruitment, provide counsel and direct support for district, camps and programs
- Administrative needs, including postage, computers and links to the National BSA computer system, copy machines, folding machines and a printing shop
- Service centers to provide additional support to volunteers
- Audio-visual supplies used in training, at camps and in volunteer meetings
- Postage to mail materials to leaders, parents and youth members
- A council website to keep you informed
- Reference publications and resources, including program planning kits and to camping cookbooks
- Camp scholarships, uniforms and registration fees for disadvantaged young people
As you can see, there’s more happening at your council than the average volunteer sees. And it can’t happen without the support of volunteers like you.

Meridian District Cub Scout Day Camp
Date: June 11 to June 15, 2018

Attire: Class B
Cub Scout Day Camp is an exciting summer adventure where a Scout can spend five days in an outdoor setting and enjoy a wide range of activities with a group of friends. Day Camp provides boys fun challenges and new experiences with activities based on the Cub Scout and Webelos Scout advancement plan.

Cub Scout Archery and BB Gun Marksmanship Day

Morning Session - 9:00am - noon
Afternoon Session - 1:00pm - 4:00 pm
Attire: Class A
Cost: $30 per session for awards, program supplies, and a snack
Marksmanship day for Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos. Morning and afternoon sessions give your scout a chance to earn their rank-based shooting sports patch and BB gun or archery pin.

Dusk Bike Ride

Location: Iron Horse Trail - Intersection at Crow Canyon Road (3400 Crow Canyon Road).
PGE Parking lot (North)
Attire: Class B uniform
RSVP at Evite.
We will ride the Iron Horse Trail between Crow Canyon and Sycamore Valley Road and back for a total of about 5 miles. We will also discuss bike safety and road safety with the kids. We will also go over bike inspection tips with the scouts to show them how to ensure bike safety on the road. A member of the San Ramon Police Department will meet us at the start to talk about bike safety.
Bonus : An option to make your bike the coolest bike on the block with wheel lights. Each participating rider (including scouts, parents, siblings) will also receive a bike tire light, bike flashlights, and mounts (including batteries). Quantities limited. While supplies last.
Scouts will also receive the biking patch.
We would need parent volunteers and require each child to have an adult chaperone on a bike. We are hoping to have as many parent riders as possible. Siblings are also encouraged to join.
What to bring:
Bike - in good working condition.
Helmets
Light jacket. (optional, depending on weather)
Water bottle.

Hoot Owl Hike At Sycamore Grove Park

0.6 miles south on Arroyo Road off Wetmore Road
This is a ranger guided hike with the Livermore Parks and Recreation Department.
Wear sturdy shoes. You will be hiking on dirt trails that may be rocky and rough. We recommend bringing layers of clothing and, if appropriate, raingear.
Insect repellent is recommended. Drinking water is okay to bring.

Hike At Diablo Foothills Regional Park

Directions:
Exit I-680 at Livorna Road. Head east about three miles to the Livorna Staging area located just west of Stonegate Drive in Alamo.
Parking is limited so carpooling is highly encouraged.
Class B uniform.
The hike is about 3.2 miles loop up to the EBMUD water tank and back using the Foothill trail and the Alamo trail to return. Besides panoramic views of the mountain and its surroundings, Diablo Foothill's 1,060 acres contain interesting geologic features, beautiful wildflowers in season, and a variety of bird and animal life.
Dress for the weather.
Carry lots of water and light snacks.

Hike At Morgan Territory Regional Preserve
January Hike: Morgan Territory Regional Preserve

Class B uniform
The hike is about 2.5 miles loop starting at the Condor Trail to the Volvon Trail and then back using the Blue Oak trail. This place has Sandstone hills within the park's 4,708 acres which are adorned in spring with more than 90 species of wildflowers, including the Diablo sunflower (Helianthella castanea), which grows only in the foothills of Mount Diablo. Deer, coyote and even the elusive mountain lion may be seen here, and a variety of raptors frequently soar overhead. Dress for the weather. Carry lots of water and light snacks. Scout Day With The A’s
Date/Time: Game time is Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 6:05 PM - 10:00 PM
Pregame parade is at 5 pm. Participants should show up 4:45 pm.

Please join us for the Oakland A's vs the Boston Red Sox which features a pregame festival in the parking lot with a wide variety of activities, an on-field parade for uniformed Scouts and leaders, a commemorative patch for all participating Scouts, and a discounted game ticket.
This event is open to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of all ages, as well as their families and friends. All uniformed Scouts and leaders will receive a commemorative Scout Day patch.
Here are the highlights of the pre-game festivities for Scouts:
- Scout Festival in the parking lot from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
- Inflatables
- Camp information
- Arts & crafts
- All uniformed Scouts will be invited to walk on the warning track during the pre-game parade
- All uniformed Scouts receive a special patch at the end of the parade
We will reserve a specified number of lower level seats on the Plaza Infield based on responses to the Evite. These will go first come first serve to those that pay sign up and pay. Plaza Infield tickets are $28 per scout and $28 per additional family member.

Since there are limited seats, we are asking everyone to not sign up unless you are positive you are going to go. Once you sign up, you are committed to purchasing the tickets. There will be no refunds. If you cannot make it, it is your responsibility to find someone to take your tickets.
