Indy® Grand Prix of Sonoma – August 28
Hello Scouts of Pack 1776 and Race Fans!

Hope you are all having an outstanding summer. Our Pack 1776 never slows down on the fun events during the break, and next month's Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma race is the high speed proof of that.
Once again Webmaster Stella worked her magic and arranged for the fastest day of the summer, FREE for scouts and leaders in their class A uniforms, with discounted tickets available for only $20. That's over $35 in savings from the regular price of $55.
We requested 50 tickets to sell. I would ask that you consider attending the race, while extending the invitation and opportunity to your friends, families, neighbors, co-workers to join in on this opportunity to purchase these low,low,low cost tickets, and to support their cubs at Pack 1776.
Here's some info from Stella herself:
- Scouts in Class A do not need a ticket. They are admitted free at the door.
- Friends and family can get discounted tickets from Stella for $20 ($55 regular) with no transaction fee.

Kiwanis Danville 4th of July Parade WINNERS
That's right, Pack 1776, WINNERS!
Winners, not only because the judges among the parade organizers, the Kiwanis Club of Danville, gave us top honors in the Scout Unit category.
Winners, not only because our scouts and their parents braved the long ride and walk, intense heat and unrelenting sun.
Winners, not only because our scouts offered their holiday weekend to wash the Huey, arrive early and support the local Vietnam Veteran's organization.
Winners, because on the day of our country's birthday, engaging the crowd with our cheers "U-S-A" and "Cub -Scouts" and "seventeen-SEVENTY SIX" we made the positive impression on our community that I hope our boys will continue to make into their adult years. To serve without seeking reward, to work without whiiiiiiiining, to contribute to our society without groping for recognition.
Did I mention we didn't even have our pack banner? No kidding, we entertained the audience with our pack yells, our enthusiasm, and our charming personalities.
From Den Leader Harry Beck, reaching out to awe-inspired watchers, as he rode left-side, spreading the word about the history of the Huey.
Or from Den Leader Ammy Pluth and Stella Lei, riding right side, leading the scouts in cheers.
Or from Den Leaders Alan Lei and Ada Ip, leading the ground forces who ran along the side of the helicopter, namely the tireless families and parents, like mobile infantry.
And the boys? A great bunch of troopers of whom I am proud. They made it known who we are...seventeen SEVENTY SIX!

And thanks to the boys who rode the Huey and marched in a very special parade. Not surprising, the theme of the parade this year was "Recognizing Our Future Leaders." Meet our future leaders, the Winners of Pack 1776.

The New NOVA Award from BSA
Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics...Known as "STEM", the BSA is developing an exciting new program around these areas with new awards called NOVA and SUPERNOVA. Stay tuned for more information on this new program in the coming months!
Danville Parade Detail
Date: Monday, July 4, 2011
Time:
- 8:00 AM - Arrive for a pre-flight briefing
- 9:00 AM - Parade starts
- 10:15 AM - Parade finishes for scouts
Location: Danville, CA
The parade starts at 9:00AM. In spite of there being no seat belts nor seat belt lights, passengers must be prepared to remain seated for the entire low-level flight down Main Street. Parachutes will not be available so no exiting will be allowed until the final Landing Zone is reached and with pilot permission.

Bus transportation is provided to return participants to the parade beginning staging areas. (see Parade Route Map)

Pack 1776,
We've been invited by the Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley and Concord to march/ride along with them INSIDE a Vietnam era Huey helicopter at the the Kiwanis Danville 4th of July parade. Along with this honor comes responsibility. Our pack is being offered the opportunity to wash the Huey on July 3rd at 4 PM. Buckets, wash cloths and clean water will be provided. The Huey is at the base of the control tower at Buchannan Field (Concord, CA), at the end of John Glenn Dr. Scouts who participate in the helicopter wash will be able to ride in the helicopter during the parade the next day. Please note that participation in the Huey wash is MANDATORY to ride in the Huey during the parade the next day. Scout who cannot attend the Huey wash on July 3rd at 4 PM can march along side the Huey. All scouts need to be at the parade start at 8:00 AM July 4th. Complete details of the parade will be posted after June 30th.
