Signup: Just show up and have fun! No sign up is needed. The entire scouting family is welcome!

Beware of ghosts and goblins! Come for an evening of games, fun, and mayhem!  Participate in our Cub Scout Carnival! Jump in the large jumpy house and play carnival games to win prizes. Come dressed up in your Halloween best and get your picture taken at the photo booth. You may even win one of our  costume medals at the parade; you do not need to be a scout to win. A small slice of pizza will be available for $1.00 in the food booth.  Please bring your refillable water bottle.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) Training

Date: Saturday, October 27th, 2018 - Sunday, October 28th, 2018

Time: 8:30 am to 11:00 am

The BALOO Training Course is presented by the council that introduces Cub Scout leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly overnight events and camping. In order for our Pack to attend an overnight event, there must be BALOO trained adults in attendance. Right now we have 3 BALOO certified leaders and 1 BALOO certified parent, and need more BALOO trained adults to fill this important role.

If you enjoy going on overnight camping trips, please register. The training starts at 8:30am on Saturday and finishes at 11am on Sunday.

The BALOO training sessions include hands-on demonstration of the why and how of Cub Scout camping — planning, equipment, fire safety, stoves, and lanterns, first aid and sanitation, nature hikes and games, meal preparation, overnight campsite setup and selection, and an evening campfire program.

Cost:  $45.00 for Registration by April 7 ($55.00 after October 13th). The pack will reimburse you the $45 cost if you register before October 13^th and your participation goes toward your volunteer hours.

“Webelos to Scout” Transition Program

The District's annual “Webelos to Scout” transition program is for parents of Webelos, Den Leaders and parents of boys interested in joining Boy Scouts. (Adults only.  No Webelos Scouts or children please).  The transition process will be explained, questions answered, and you will then have a chance to meet all of the troops in the District and learn more about their programs.

This Saturday! Hike at Las Trampas Regional Wilderness

Meeting Point: Parking lot at the end of Bollinger Canyon Road, San Ramon, CA

Directions: From Highway 680: Take the Crow Canyon Road exit. Drive west on Crow Canyon for about 1 mile, then turn right (north) onto Bollinger Canyon Road. Continue about 4.5 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road. Alternatively, drive west on Bollinger until it ends at the park. It is about 10 miles from school on Bollinger Canyon Road. Meet at the parking lot at the end of the road inside the park.

Trail: Bollinger Creek Loop trail. It is a very nice nearly flat 1.2 Mile trail. It should take less than 1 hour to complete. Is is an easy hike for our younger scouts.

What to Bring:
Plenty of water and snacks
Layers of clothing appropriate for the weather
Binoculars, camera (optional)

Overview:
Las Trampas (Spanish for the traps) has two distinct areas, each with its own personality. Rocky Ridge, on the west side of the valley, is known for views in all directions, unusual rocks and green rolling hills lightly forested with California bays, oaks and maples. The wildflower display on the hills just off the ridgeline is an east bay favorite. The Las Trampas Ridge, to the east, is quite different, featuring a plant community dominated by chamise with other chaparral plants such as manzanitas and coyote brush.

October Outdoor Pack Meeting and Optional Camp Out

Location: Sugarloaf Open Space 2161 Youngs Valley Road, (680 N Rudgear Road Exit, Near Alamo), Walnut Creek, CA 94596

What to bring: Everyone should bring a refillable water bottle, flashlight, folding chair, and sun protection. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking. Bring warm clothes as it may get cold after dark. It will also be beneficial to look into various tools that could help while backpacking and hiking. For example, looking at some of the best entrenching tools could help you in many different scenarios such as needing to dig a fire pit or to be able to make your way through the overgrown wilderness, etc. There can be many helpful tools available that can make your backpacking trip a little easier. It's all about being prepared!

Bring a mess kit (or similar washable plate, fork, cup, etc.) for use at dinner/breakfast. In support of our Pack's continued commitment to be Conservation & Environmentally Minded and to prepare our scouts for when they eventually go on backpacking trips, disposable plates, forks, cups, etc. should not be brought or used. A dishwashing station will be available.

For those staying overnight, you must have your own tent and sleeping bag. Please refer to the Outdoor Essentials on what to pack.

Cost: Free to those not camping overnight. The park charges $8 per person for those who wish to camp overnight. Please submit your payment to the Scout Box in the Coyote Creek Elementary School Office by October 2nd. Make checks payable to "Pack 1776."

Bring the family and join Pack 1776 at Sugarloaf Open Space in Walnut Creek for our Outdoor Pack Meeting and optional campout. Please come as this outdoor experience and camp out will fulfill many Adventure requirements your Scout has and will be fun!

This Pack Meeting is especially important for our Tigers and new Wolf, Bear and Webelos scouts as they and a parent will participate in our Bobcat Ceremony!

A short pack hike will take place before dinner. The Pack will host a light dinner and s'mores for dessert. A vegetarian option is available. During the evening campfire, we'll watch skits, play games, roast marshmallows/make S'mores and tell stories. We encourage all scouts to buddy up and perform a skit. Search online under "cub scout skits" for ideas. A light breakfast is also provided for those staying overnight.

The weather should be great and we have a fun, action packed agenda. Scouts should arrive in Class A uniform with a Class B shirt or T Shirt underneath.

In order to have a fun and successful camping trip, we need everyone's help. If you see an opportunity, jump-in! Also, if you see scouts doing something dangerous, wandering away from our group, hurting the environment, or being disrespectful to another, please stop them immediately. Don't wait for a uniformed leader (who are parent volunteers like you) to get involved.

2018 Popcorn Show & Sell

Does your scout need to practice his public speaking, good manners, or accepting rejections gracefully? Selling popcorn is a great way to practice all these skills!  This year we booked opportunities at different locations; try them all! Please sign up on SignUpGenius! Sales earned at the store, along with your individual sales to friends and neighbors, all count toward your scout's Trails End Prizes! In addition, every scout that sells $125 or more will receive a Survival Tool Prize! And - back by popular demand - the top two individual sellers will receive a bow and arrow or drone! The top selling Den will receive a Ice Cream Party!  Furthermore, every scout that sells $125 or more will have their winter camping fee discounted (we are looking towards participating in an overnight at the Monterey Bay Aquarium).

Be sure to read PACK 1776 Popcorn Sales Station Instructions (2018) If you’re the first or last shift, you must pick up or return the popcorn and cash box at Govind's home.

Alternatively, you can also:

1) Show and Deliver: go to Govind's home on Saturdays and Sundays between 9:00 am and 10:00 am and pick up popcorn. Sell as much as you can. Bring back the cash and remaining popcorn by October 14.

2) Take Order: take your popcorn order form (ask your Den Leader if you need one) and let your customers choose all the flavors; collect the advance payment. Bring your form and payment to Govind. Popcorn will be available for you to pick up and distribute in mid-November.

3) Online: Set up an account at trails-end.com and sell online.

When selling door to door, please follow these safety rules:

• Never enter someone’s home.
• Don’t carry large amounts of cash with you.
• Always walk on the sidewalk and driveway.
• Always sell with another scout or adult.

Remember to wear your Class A uniform, be respectful and have fun!

1.    Complete the online Pack 1776 Registration Form

2.    Complete the Medical Form Parts A & B

3.    Make a copy of the front & back of your scout’s medical insurance card.

4.    Provide the scout registration fee for your year via a check made out to Pack 1776: 

$150 per Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelos scout (First through Fifth grades in 2018-2019). 

$75 per new Lion scouts (those who will be in Kindergarten in 2018-2019)

5.    Provide a separate $200 parent volunteer deposit - 1 per family (check postdated to 4/1/2019, also made out to Pack 1776). 

Volunteer deposit waived for new Lion scouts. 

6.    Complete the online BSA Youth Application Form for new scouts only. Drop off the checks, medical forms and copy of your child’s medical card to the Scout Box located inside the Coyote Creek Elementary School Office.   If you have questions, feel free to email us at [email protected]. 

9/11 Remembrance Flag Ceremony

Pack 1776 Families,

Pack 1776 will participate in the opening flag ceremony for Coyote Creek's 9/11 Memorial to be held at 8:35 am on Tuesday, September 11th.

Scouts who want to participate must arrive at the Sundial area behind the office at 8:00am in your full Class A uniform.
