Pack 1776 Spring Camping at Anthony Chabot Family Campground

What: Pack 1776 Spring Camping
When: 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 1 to noon, Sunday, April 2

Hopefully the wonderful weather will hold and we can finally go camping! Pack families are welcome to come for the day. To stay the night, please sign up via evite so we can budget for food. The pack will provide snacks, breakfast and charcoal for the camping grills. You must bring your own dinner. If you want a hot meal, we recommend bringing a foil dinner to grill. Check online for great recipe ideas.

Here's our tentative schedule:

Saturday:

2:00 to 3:00 - Arrive and set up camp
3:00 to 3:15 - Flag ceremony
3:15 to 3:30 - Snacks (solar oven S'mores made by Den 9)
3:30 to 4:30 - Hike
4:30 to 5:30 - Fun activities / BBQ prep
5:30 to 6:30 - Dinner (bring your own foil pack dinner)
6:30 to 7:15 - Fun activities or free time
7:30 to 8:30 - Camp fire, skits, games, snacks
8:30 to 9:00 - Get ready for bed
9:00 Lights out

Sunday:

7:15 to 7:45 Start camp fires, prepare breakfast
7:45 to 8:30 Free breakfast provided by the Pack (coffee, hot chocolate, juice, muffins, croissants, bagels, and fruits)
8:30 to 10:30 Morning Activities
10:45 to 11:00 Closing Ceremonies
11:00 to 12:00 Break Camp and Leave

Directions:

So it looks like our path into the camp grounds has been blocked by weather damage and it doesn't look like it will be reopened for this weekend. However, there is another way into the campgrounds. Please see picture below for alternative route:

Get on I-680 N
Follow I-680 N, CA-24 W and CA-13 S to Redwood Rd in Oakland.
Take the Redwood Road exit from CA-13 S
23 min (24.6 mi)
Use the left 2 lanes to turn sharply left onto Redwood Rd

Destination (Main Entrance) will be on the RIGHT

Once inside the Main Entrance, turn LEFT at the Marciel Gate.
Follow the road for about 2 miles and follow the signs for the Group Camping. Our Site is LOST RIDGE. Once inside our sites gate, follow the road to the Lost Ridge and park at the circle at the end of the site (see picture below). You will need a Parking Pass. 2017 Spring Family Camp

Family Camp and Pack Overnighters

Council-organized family camps are overnight events involving more than one pack, with the local council. These weekends are fun for Cub Scouts and their families. Round robin activity stations provide structured program while leaving enough free time to enjoy the outdoors. Activities include a nature hike, games, first aid training, Scout skills, crafts, BB gun shooting and archery. There will be a campfire Saturday evening with SMORES. There will be medical staff around when the campfire is on and all staff has had sufficient first aid training, similar to Ottawa first aid training, to ensure that everyone stays safe at all times, especially when there is fire around.

Who Can Attend?

The whole family is invited to attend Cub Scout Family Camp. Anyone in the family (immediate or extended) may attend any of the Cub Scout Family Camps hosted in the redwoods of coastal California at Camp Lindblad, as long as there is one registered Cub Scout in the family. Siblings age 5 and under are only $15.00 per person, and must be accompanied by an adult.

How much does it Cost and What's Covered?

The registration fees below cover food, craft supplies, sporting good supplies, staff salary for positions, etc.

  • Cub Scout $50.00
  • Adult $50.00
  • Sibling $50.00
  • Sibling age 5 or under $15.00

Meals supplied are Saturday Lunch and Dinner, Campfire SMORES, Sunday Breakfast and Bag Lunch Sunday Noon. (No food will be served Friday Night or Saturday morning.) Friday evening camping is available at registration site.

How Do I Register for Camp?

For your convenience, registrations may be made online at our council website, http://mdscbsa.org/ . Straight to Registration Credit card payments (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express) must be made at the time of registration.

You may alternately send in a check by completing the above registration online. When you get to the payment screen, next to credit card, click on the drop down menu and choose "mail in the form". Mail to Family Camps Registration MDSC BSA 800 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523. You will need to include payment with the form for ALL people listed on the form. Payment may be made with check, cash, or the credit cards listed in the previous paragraph.

After your registration for family camp is submitted, you will need to have all campers complete their medical forms parts A & B and permission slips (blank forms available on our website at CubScoutFamilyCamp

Forms will be collected at check-in. Signups for staffing needs will take place at check-in.

Blue and Gold 2017

Come Celebrate the 107th birthday of Scouting at the Blue and Gold Banquet where we will have a ceremony for Webelos IIs who will receive their Arrow of Light Awards and bridge to their journey into Boy Scouts. A catered dinner and fun entertainment by For Goodness Snakes are provided at no cost to Pack 1776 members and their immediate family.

Please RSVP by February 10th with the number of people attending and any vegetarian preference.

Local TV Station Tour

Hi Cub Scouts! 
 
We have another exciting outing planned for you! 
 
We have arranged 2 tours for 15 each (total -- this includes adults and kids) to tour our local TV Station with local celebrity & coach George Baljevich (aka Dr.B tv30 sports). Please sign up (first come, first serve).  If there's a lot of interest, we will give scouts priority and ask some adults to wait outside.  
 

Cost:   Free.

TV30 is George "Dr. B" Baljevich.  He's a veteran sports reporter and host for Tri-Valley Sports Final and Let's Talk Sports.  Dr. B was also a former basketball coach and teacher. 
 
The tour will take about 45 min, video and photos are allowed. They usually do scout tours for those who need some requirements (earn a patch?)  He will also use visual/with sports memorabilia, uniforms etc displays with a talk.

Ardenwood Historic Farm Visit

Time: Gather at 1PM in front of the main building for a Pack picture.
Fees (Pay at site, no advance pay necessary): $3 adults, $2 kids (under 4, free)
Attire: Class B T-shirt

This is an open invite, but please do RSVP so we know who is coming.

Inviting all scouts and their families to visit the Ardenwood Historic Farm, a working farm with a train & crops grown using historic methods, plus volunteers in period attire. A ton of things to see!!

The month of January has a high probablity for viewing the Monarch Butterflies. Only downfall is that some things are not open (Train, produce stand, Patterson house, may not be much to see in the gardens as well).

Facility opens from 10a to 4p. There is no parking fee. Dogs are not allowed in the Ardenwood Historic Farm. The docents will have a scavenger hunt which is for all ages. The Ardenwood forms will have all the printed forms there. They have picnic tables/benches there, so we can bring our own lunch.

Halloween Party

Beware, beware, the ghosts and goblins will be everywhere! All our Cub Scouts and their families are invited to join us for some mayhem, games, prizes and munchies on Friday, October 28th, from 6 to 8 PM in the Coyote Creek School MPR. Pizza and water will be available for $1.00.
Scouts, siblings and parents, don't forget to DRESS UP! Best costumes win medals!

Mystery Spot, Pack Hike, and Mount Hermon Adventures

We have 2 events on November 5:

Mystery Spot, Pack Hike, and Mount Hermon Adventures.

 

Mount Hermon Adventures is a multiple aerial adventure courses designed to challenge kids and adults. The course features seven different activities, at heights of 25 feet above the forest floor, with a short zip line descent back to the ground. The cost is $25 per person for two hours and limited to 20 people 5 years and up and weigh between 45–250lbs. Kids under 7 must be accompanies by an adult. Our only available slot is at 10:00 am; those going on this adventure should sign up for the 1:36 Mystery Spot tour.

The Mystery Spot is a gravitational anomaly located in the redwood forests just outside of Santa Cruz. Come experience these phenomena for yourself! Ticket price includes a 45 minute guided tour. There can only be 25 people per tour group so we reserved 3 slots for a total of 75 people; first pay first serve. After the tour, let’s do a 1.5 mile hike and enjoy a spectacular view. If you would like to spend the afternoon at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk or beach, it only 20 min away.

9/11 Memorial Flag Ceremony

Pack 1776 Families,

Pack 1776 will participate in the opening flag ceremony for Coyote Creek's 9/11 Memorial to be held at 8:45am on Monday, September 12th.

Scouts who want to participate must arrive at the Sundial area behind the office at 8:00am in your full Class A uniform.

October Pack Meeting and Fall Camping

Date: Saturday, October 15th – Sunday, October 16th, 2016

Our October Pack Meeting will be at the Arroyo Flats Campground in Garin Regional Park. Scouts can sign up to camp overnight there after the Pack meeting. The campground has a barbecue, drinking fountain, a fire ring, and chemical toilets (we are only staying one night).

The campsite has capacity for 75 campers.  Signup is open now but please sign up only if you can absolutely commit to attend. Please wait if you're uncertain of your availability so everyone has a fair chance to participate.

We only have a limited number of evening parking passes so we highly recommend carpooling. There are only 2 parking spots at the campground which is 1/4 mile from the main parking lot. We will need volunteers to help with logistics to shuttle equipment and young scouts to the campsite. There are also other volunteering opportunities for the pack meeting, click here to sign up.

There is a trail for a group hike and a small stocked fishing pond nearby called Jordan Pond. Bring your fishing poles!

Campers need to bring your own mess kits (plates, utensils, cups), and prepare your own foil dinners at home to cook in our fire pits for dinner the evening of the 15th.  The pack will provide a simple breakfast for the morning of the 16th.

August Hike – Las Trampas

Directions
From Highway 680: Take the Crow Canyon Road exit. Drive west on Crow Canyon for about 1 mile, then turn right (north) onto Bollinger Canyon Road. Continue about 4.5 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road.  Alternatively, drive west on Bollinger till it ends at the park. About 10 miles from school on Bollinger Canyon Road.

Meet at the parking lot at the end of the road inside the park.

Trail
Bollinger Creek Loop trail. A very nice nearly flat 1.2 Mile trail. Should take less than 1 hr to complete. Easy hike for our younger scouts a nice hike to start off this scouting year. Since this is a short hike we can start later when it is slightly coiler.

What to bring:

  • Binoculars, camera
  • Plenty of water and snacks
