Spring Camping 2012 Re-cap

The Spring camping trip at beautiful New Brighton State Beach near Capitola was a great success and a ton of fun. The weather and beach were spectacular!

After camp setup and smores Friday night, we woke up Saturday to a full day of activities (and a few raccoon footprints..). The scouts started off the Saturday by receiving their own scout-approved mess kits to keep and test out with a nice hearty breakfast. We then headed down to the beach for a vigorous game of Ultimate Frisbee and, afterwards, a creative and competitive sea creature themed sand sculpture contest. The finalist were a jellyfish by the Bears, an octopus by the Webelos I and the ugly fish by the Webelos II. After intense debate by an international panel of judges (two local beachgoers, one who only spoke Russian), the Ugly Fish took the grand prize. After lunch, we headed down the coast for a hike lead by Steve Jackson to the Sea Cliff pier to view the historic Palo Alto, a WWI supply ship sunk in 1929. After the hike, the boys had free time to play tag, climb logs and explore back at the camp.  Before dinner, Jack Pluth, Ammy Pluth and James Sevier lead the scouts through the Science belt loop where they learned all about molecules and even got to build their own with gumdrops (which they promptly ate). After dinner (foil cooking!), the evening was wrapped up with songs and ghost stories led by Cubmaster Pluth and smores.

The following morning we wrapped up the trip with fresh coffee and a delicious breakfast, handed out the belt loops (Ultimate Frisbee and Science) and the many different patches earned on the trip, packed up and headed out.

One of the great things about these trips is that everyone pitches for the meals and activities and we become one big family so a BIG thank you to everyone for making the Spring Camping 2012 trip a great success!!

San Ramon Art & Wind Festival-Volunteers Needed!!

It’s that time of the year again! We are asking the entire Pack 1776 Cub Scout family to participate in the sales of our Cotton Candy Fundraiser at the 2012 San Ramon Art & Wind Festival.

Last year, in addition to having a great time, we were able to raise enough money to keep our annual dues at the same low rate in previous years, while earning extra cash to present fun, new events, like the Raingutter Regatta and the Chabot Outdoor Pack Meeting.

In an effort to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate, please note the following guidelines:

1.) At least one parent is required to be with their participating scout in this fundraiser but the entire family is most welcome to join and have fun.
2.) Each shift must have at least 1 Scout Leader present. There will be no more than 4 scouts present inside the booth during any shift.
3.) Try to remember to maintain a Scout attitude while participating in this fundraiser. Don't forget that you are all perfect 1776 Gentlemen. We should always thank those who we have asked and always wish them a good day, to encourage proper attitude demonstrating good manners and conduct. Class A uniform.

Memorial Day Weekend Flag Planting – RSVP by tomorrow

Pack 1776,

As a reminder, we are participating in a Memorial Day grave decoration this year at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno on Saturday, May 28th. This is typically one of the most meaningful events of the year, given the importance of the holiday and direct involvement the scouts will have in honoring our nation's fallen heroes. The ceremony will begin promptly at 8:30am and we will likely be completed with the flag planting by 10:30am.

Please take a moment and RSVP for this event so we know how many patches to order for our pack. You can do so through the evite link below:
