Details:  Approximately 3.5-3.8 miles/3 hours long. A moderately strenuous hike will take you to the top of Flag Hill, which is composed of layers of fossil-rich sandstone formed some 13 million years ago. You'll enjoy great views and good opportunities to watch birds and other wildlife. Ambitious hikers may take an optional detour to Indian Joe Cave Rocks. TRAIL MAP

Getting there:

Go south on I-680 and exit at Calaveras Road/Highway 84 just south of the town of Pleasanton. Turn left onto Calaveras Road and proceed to Geary Road, which leads directly into the park.

How to Register with Pack 1776

1. Complete online Pack 1776 Registration Form
2. Complete the Medical Form Parts A & B
3. Make a copy of the front & back of your scout’s medical insurance card.
4. Provide the scout registration fee for your year via a check made out to Pack 1776:

• $150 per Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelos scout (First through Fifth grades in 2019-2020).  
• $75 per new Lion scouts (those who will be in Kindergarten in 2019-2020)

1. Provide a separate $200 parent volunteer deposit per family, (check postdated to 4/1/2020, also made out to Pack 1776).  Fee waived for new Lion scouts.
2. Online BSA Youth Application Form for new scouts only.

Bring your completed forms and checks to Rocket Day! or deposit them in the Pack 1776 mailbox inside the Coyote Creek School Office (on the table by the front door).

We use emails for all of our Pack communication and signups. Please provide an email address that you check regularly.

Please provide us your cell phone number so we can reach each other during outings. You can enter your other phone numbers on Scoutbook.com.

All of our scouts and uniformed leaders will receive a “dri-fit” shirt. They run smaller than a traditional cotton t-shirt; we recommend ordering one size larger.

Let us know your interests and talents. It does not commit you to a role, just help us understand the parent skills and resources available within our pack.

Medical Form Part A & B and Copy of Insurance

BSA requires parents to complete a new waiver and medical form every year in order for scouts to participate in activities.  Click here:  FORM.

Page 1, Part A requires 2 parent signatures in the State of California.

Page 1, Part A asks for people who can take your scout to and from events. If you list names here, no one outside the list can take your child. We suggest writing “anyone from Pack 1776”

If your scout has a “life threatening allergy” please write it on the top of page 1 with a red sharpie.

Please provide a front and back copy of your child’s medical insurance card.

For immunization history, we only need the date of the last injection.

Submit a check payment of $150

Check should be made out to Pack 1776 and can be turned in at the pack meetings or the pack mailbox inside the Coyote Creek office (on a table by the front door).

The fee covers 1) registration with the Boy Scouts of America, 2) subscription to Boy's Life magazine, 3) Class B shirt, and 4) general Pack meeting expenses. It does not include the costs for outings, camping or Class A uniform.

We’d love for you to participate as a leader!  If you’re willing to be a trained uniformed leader, we will discount your registration fee by $50; one discount per paid scout. You must complete your BSA Adult Application Form, online Youth Protection training, have all the patches properly sewn onto your uniform, and wear your uniform whenever the scouts wear theirs.

You have 30 days or until September 13, 2019 for a full refund. After this deadline, we thank you for your tax deductible donation to support scouting.

 A $200 volunteer deposit check, postdated to 4/1/2020

Please submit a separate postdated check made out to Pack 1776, even if you are a uniformed leader. It simplifies our job when everyone follows the same rule. We will hold on to this check until the end of the scouting year.

If you have fulfilled your eight minimum service hours and log it onto our website at https://pack1776.com/volunteering/we will return your $200 deposit at your child’s graduation.

We understand that some families have a hard time completing the minimum service hour. We will accept your $200 volunteer donation in exchange. It will be used to help train our Pack Leaders and support our scouting program.

BSA Youth Application Form  for new scouts only.

This form is required for all scouts new to Pack 1776, including scouts transferring from another Pack.

You can ignore the request to pay $36 online to BSA National; the Pack will pay for it using part of your registration fee.

Acceptance into the Pack

If you signed up during open registration (up to mid September), we automatically accept all boys and girls from kindergarten to fourth grade. We only accept fifth grade boys or girls that have completed Webelos I already.

After the open registration period, we only accept new scouts with the Den Leader’s approval.

Unless there's room in the current Den, new Den assignment and number is announced after the September 2019 Pack meeting.

Den Leaders are chosen among the Den parents. Den Leaders do not need any prior scouting or leadership experience; our Pack and District will provide training and support.

Cub Scouting is a year-round family program designed for boys or girls in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. Young boys and girls grow up fast. Give your son or daughter a valuable gift by encouraging him or her to join Cub Scouting today. The time you invest in them today will make a difference in the person he or she becomes tomorrow.

• Meet:  Presidio Officers’ Club Museum, 50 Moraga Ave, San Francisco, CA 94129
• Park:   Main Post Parking Lot.  Fee charged. Park closer to the flag pole. 
• Bring:  Cameras, water, lunch, snack, sunscreen. 
• Distance:  4 miles, paved path, with one small section of stairs. Many stops.
• Uniform: Class B T Shirt. Dress in layers as it may be cold.
• Information/Maps: Pack 1776 Trail map. GGNRA map & brochure. Fort Point Junior Ranger booklet.
• RSVP so we can get a headcount for patches.

Join us for a day of fun in San Francisco as we hike the Cub Scout Presidio Historical Trail. This is a 4 mile hike along the paved paths in San Francisco’s Golden Gate National Recreation Area.  All Scouts finishing the hike will receive a commemorative patch.

We will be doing a modified version of the hike which starts at 11:00 a.m. outside the Presidio Museum located at the Officers' Club. This is a free museum that opens at 10:00 a.m. You can visit it on your own before or after the hike. You can also visit the Presidio Visitor Center. Public restrooms are located next door.

Park in the Main Post parking lot (this is near the Disney Family Museum). Park closest to the Flag Pole. There is a fee for parking.

We will start our hike at the Presidio Museum and head down to Crissy Field. Along the way we walk past the Presidio National Cemetary where a famous woman Civil War spy, and various heroes and generals from the Civil War, WWI and Spanish American Wars lay buried. We will pass by a pet cemetery, the only one that was located on any military base. No, it is not for animals that died in the service of the armed forces, but just ordinary pets that belonged to families of the military.

When we arrive at Crissy Field, we will walk towards the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary Visitor's Center and head down to Fort Point. There are public restrooms located near the Warming Hut. We will stop at Fort Point.

We will break for lunch at Fort Point and go inside for a visit. Admission is free. Scouts have the opportunity to earn a National Park Service Junior Ranger badge while at Fort Point. Download their booklet here. Public restrooms are located outside Fort Point.

Following our visit to Fort Point, we will back track a bit and then head up a brief section of stairs to the Golden Gate Bridge overlook and visitor's center. Then we will return back to the Main Post parking lot along a slight downhill path. Along the way we will stop at the Calavary Stables and say "hello" to the National Park Ranger's horses that may be in the outdoor corral.

At the end of the hike, you may choose to visit the museum, visitor's center or take a photo in front of Yoda (who is located down the street, outside Lucasfilm ( 1 Letterman Dr, San Francisco, CA 94129 ).

For those Scouts who attended the June Pack Events (Black Diamond Hills hike or Cub Scout Day Camp), this is the July event that will qualify you to earn your National Summertime Award Pin! To do so, a Scout must attend a Pack event in June, July and August 2019.

Family Scouting: Girls Welcome!

Our Pack is open to boys and girls. By welcoming girls into the program, even more youth will have access to the character development and values-based leadership that Scouting promises.

Lions: Kindergarten age youth; Come try it out!

We are celebrating three years of participation in the national Lion program!  As a Lion, your kindergartner will make friends, laugh loud, gain confidence, discover nature, and most of all…have fun.  A kindergarten-age boy or girl and his or her adult partner join and attend meetings and activities together.  Recognizing how Lions are integral to the success of our program and to introduce them to the world of Cub Scouting, the Pack has discounted the normal registration fee to $75.00 and waived the volunteer deposit.

2019 Memorial Day Flag Planting

Saturday, May 25th @ Presidio National Cemetary

• Date: Saturday, May 25, 2019
• Time: 8:45 am to 11:30 am (We start promptly at 9 am.)
• Location: San Francisco National Cemetery, 1 Lincoln Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94129
• Attire: Full Class A uniform, footwear suitable for walking on wet grass.
• Register: RSVP here so we can provide a headcount.

The Memorial Day Weekend Flag Planting event will be held at the San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio. Each year scouts from across the Bay Area meet to help prepare the cemetery for the Memorial Day weekend. The ceremony starts with a flag ceremony and then an address by a veteran.  The scouts then spread out across the cemetery and place American flags in front of every grave site.

The cemetery contains the graves of more than 35,000 veterans and their family members dating back to the 1846 war with Mexico.

It's a worthwhile event that reminds our Scouts of the sacrifice many have made to make our country what it is today.

All leaders and scouts should be in full uniform.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 9 am.

The San Francisco Bay Area Council hosts a small lunch afterwards and all participating scouts earn a patch.

2019 Art & Wind Festival – Cotton Candy Booth

It’s that time of the year again! We are asking the entire Pack 1776 Cub Scout family to participate in the sales of our Cotton Candy Fundraiser at the 2019 San Ramon Art & Wind Festival. The scouts will practice being friendly, courteous, kind, and cheerful. Click the link to sign up.
