May 27: Flag Planting at the Presidio in SF – GGAC Event

When: Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 8:45am

Where: San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio 1 Lincoln Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94129 Parking: There is free street parking near the cemetery entrance. You may need to walk a bit.

Wear: Full Class A uniform with shirt tucked in, comfortable shoes for walking, sunscreen

[ RSVP ] ASAP to get included in the pack's headcount.

Bring: Water in reusable water bottle, a jacket as the weather can be unpredictable A light snack and patch will be provided at the end.

Please join Golden Gate Area Council's annual flag planting event at the SF National Cemetery in the Presidio. Hundreds of Scouts of all ages and their families will help plant thousands of flags at the National Cemetery in preparation for the Memorial Day event. It's been the pack's annual tradition to participate. This is typically one of the most meaningful service events of the year, reminding our Scouts of the ultimate sacrifice many have made to make our country what it is today.

Scouts and Uniformed Leaders must be in full Class A Uniform. Friends and family are welcome. The ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00am. The event will likely be completed with the flag planting by 11:30am. Following the flag planting, the Council typically offers some light snacks. Scouts who participate earn a patch.

Let's celebrate good times with good company and a multicultural potluck! We'll celebrate our cubs, parents, and our amazing volunteers for a wonderful year of learning new things and inspiring all of us to incorporate the scout law into our daily lives. On Advancement Day, we will cheer all scouts and those who have earned their den rank through completed den adventures. We will also recognize the amazing volunteers and our Den Chiefs whom we couldn’t do without. Join us for this celebration!

May 21: Pack 1776 Bike Hike

Date: Sunday, May 21st, 2023

Time: 9:30am

Location: Iron Horse Trail between San Ramon Central Park (to the South) and Osage Station Park (to the North)

Distance / elevation / duration: 7.4-mile loop / mostly flat / ~2 hours total

Trail: We'll head south from the PG&E dome to Central Park, break, then north to Osage Station Park, break, and back.

Meeting Point: PG&E lot at 3400 Crow Canyon Rd, San Ramon (north, where the dome is)

Wear: Class B t-shirt and comfortable clothes, closed toe shoes

Bring: bike, helmet, outdoor essentials including plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen.

This month's pack hike is the pack's annual bike hike In honor National Bike Month!

Dust off those bikes and come on out. The entire family on bikes is welcome!

Safety first! We'll go over bike safety rules and check the bike and helmet before we start. No racing or horseplay permitted.

General safety rules:

4. Follow all traffic laws

5. Yield to other people sharing the trail when appropriate.

6. Call out "To your left" when approaching people from behind.

April 16: Pack Hike – Briones Park

Location: Briones park, Alhambra Creek Trai

Location: Briones Regional Park — 2537 Reliez Valley Road, Martinez, CA
Meeting Point: Alhambra Creek Staging Area — Gather at the southwest end of the parking lot, by the trail heads
Daily park entry fee (when kiosk is attended): $3 per vehicle; $2 per dog
Distance / elevation / duration: 2.4-mile loop / 574 ft / 1.5-2 hours
Difficulty: Easy to moderate, with elevation
Recommended for: All, with parental supervision for younger ones

Directions

Take I-680 N to CA-24 W. Take exit 14 from CA-24 W. Continue on Pleasant Hill Rd to Taylor Blvd, left on Grayson Rd, right on Reliez Valley Rd, then left on Brookwood Dr.

The hike

A great hike through nice cool shaded groves. A great choice for a hot day. Briones peak offers views from 1483 feet.

Discover this 3.9-km loop trail near Pacheco, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 17 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and horseback riding, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

Dogs are welcome and must be on a leash no longer than 6-foot long.

The trail

Take Alhambra Creek Trail To the Spengler Trail. Take Spengler to the Old Briones Road Trail. Continue to Briones Crest Trail to the Summit. There are many other trails in the area where you can deviate from if you wish.
