Yosemite Camping Trip Recap
Pack 1776 Families:
This year our Pack headed to Yosemite for our summer camping trip. We stayed two nights at the Tuolumne Meadows campground. The campground is located on the Tioga Road in the east side of the park.
On our first day at the park we visited Soda Springs. The Springs are located an easy hike away from the campground. The Scouts crowded around to watch the water slowly bubble out of the ground. On the hike back to camp a couple Scouts dipped their feet (and other parts) into the Tuolumne River.
That night there was a camp-hosted campfire for the Scouts, another campfire where the Scouts learned about owls, and a late night of star watching for those that could stay up past 9:30 p.m. They also learned about a Coyote sound so they could be prepared if anything went wrong. Late in the night, some campers heard a bear near our campsite. Nothing went missing from our site as all our food was securely stored in the bear boxes provided by the park. There were lots of gorgeous motorhomes and a lot of people had RV's and it made me really want to buy one! I don't think I could ever afford to buy one outright but RV Rental is certainly an option for the future. There's something exciting about sleeping in a tent but camping out in an RV would be so luxurious. Something that I'm definitely not used to when I go on camping trips! Luxury and tents are two words that never go together!! I was told that if you do a lot of traveling with your RV then it might be a good idea to make sure that your RV battery is properly fitted/charged. Some fellow camper also reccomended that if I wanted to get a Motorhome, it would be important to use a reliable insurance firm. If you are travelling around the country in a camper, be sure to check out One Sure Insurance for information on the benefits of ensuring a camper!
On Sunday the Pack took a hike to the top of Lembert Dome. It was a steep, but short, hike. We took the hike with a Ranger who stopped from time to time and told the Scouts about the history of Yosemite. By the time we made it to the top of the dome we had climbed over 600 feet to an altitude of 8,800 feet. The views were spectacular!
Sunday afternoon was free time. Some Scouts went fishing (no luck!), others took in a park lecture or went swimming in the river. The water was crystal clear, not too cold and there was even a natural "water slide" the Scouts could use. The Tuolumne River feeds into the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir.
The campsite had another campfire and lecture on Sunday night. Some Scouts stayed at our campsite and recovered from a day of fun. Once everyone was back at the campsite we all had s'mores.
Monday morning we packed up our gear, cleaned our campsite and headed home. Everyone had a lot of fun, learned about Yosemite, and became more responsible Scouts. Please try to join us the next time our Pack goes camping.

B-I-N-G-O Night – “B” There, Fri Sept 28
Just a friendly reminder that coming up is the Coyote Creek PTA's annual bingo night.
Every year, we, the cubs of Pack 1776, are invited to help with the games, by actually calling out the letters and numbers at the big games. We team up with the Girl Scouts as well.
Den Leader and All-Around Cool Guy, Scott Spears and I will Emcee the games, and provide the tracking of the event, and we want as many scouts to come as possible, to join in the fun.
This is your chance to stand on the stage at the MPR, and talk through the microphone. Good training for you future game show hosts (or rock stars!) in the pack.
For those of scouts who already signed up on the Coyote Creek website, please remember to wear your fancy Class A uniforms. This is a must.
For those of you who are walking around, wondering what you're going to do Friday, and might like to have a great time, Lynda Gann informed me that there might be a few spots available. Worth a try on the school website.
I will need you to send me a return email if you are attending to confirm. Last year, we did an evite, here is your John-Vite. This will help me gather the team up.
Also, I could really use some helpful parents and cubs to help with the set up and tear down. Please arrive at 4:00 at the MPR if you can, or stick around after, or both, I will!
See you soon,
Cubmaster John

9/11 Memorial Ceremony – September 11th Coyote Creek
Hi Pack 1776 Families,
Coyote Creek Elementary has invited Pack 1776 to participate in the opening flag ceremony for their 9/11 Memorial that they are planning to have at the school this coming Tuesday morning, September 11th at 8:30am.
For those cubs who want to participate, you must arrive in front of the school office at 7:45am so that we can practice and know where we need to be before ceremony. We plan to also have a practice dress towards the end of the Welcome Back Kickoff event this coming Saturday, so please try and attend.
Please RSVP to me by Saturday's Welcome Back event so that I can get an estimate of interested cubs .
Thanks.

Passing on A Thank You Note for 1776 Bingo Participation
Hi Everyone,
Hope those of you who joined us Friday night at the MPR for Bingo Night had a great time. For those who can wait until the next bingo meet up, this bingo review found here should give you something to do!
I can't resist, but have to say, "I Told You It Would Be Fun!"
The stage, the lights, the microphone, the adoring fans! That's show biz! Well, maybe I'm getting a little carried away.
Two additional fans of you boys, by the way, are Stephanie Hitchcock and Heidi Boaz from the PTA, who asked me to forward this nice note to the Pack:
Amazing thanks to all of you who brought us another successful Bingo Night!
Stephanie and Lynda you have once again provided our Coyote families with the best event of the year! Thank you for covering eveything from filling a car so full of pizza that it steamed the windows to zero visibility ...to buying the prizes and itemizing the hundreds of rsvps and dollars ... to checking supplies and coordinating our scout support. The night was everything our families expected it to be. You are a great team and PTA has been so lucky to have you chair our event together for the past several years.
Dolly and John, thank you again for your ongoing partnership- please pass our thanks from PTA on to all CCGS and Pack 1776 participants who made this night complete. I think the community element of this night creates a complete picture and makes Coyote Creek shine with pride. We love the tradition we have with both scouting groups and it is made possible with your personal generosity and leadership.
Thank you Mr. Alpert for staying the extra hours after a big tech day to support PTA. You are always so willing to be visible and welcoming for our families. The kids will always remember nights like this. I loved that you shared a vision for TWO Bingo nights next year so that more families can participate. You truly know what families appreciate.
Special thanks to super scouting moms Meena and Judy for working the check-in table with a smile...and to Renata for taking the FINAL yearbook photos, showing up with a carload of girls to help run the kitchen and for always being willing to jump in where needed.
Thank You!
Stephanie & Heidi
That's a Wrap. See you at the next pack meeting,
Cubmaster John
Bingo Night – Tomorrow
Just of few notes on Bingo Night:
Scouts who signed up on the Evite, but did not sign up/pay their $5/head to the PTA should not attend. The school is very strict about this, and has a list at the door. Pack 1776 isn't running this event, we're just guests, helping out, so the PTA is calling the shots.
Scouts who are paid in full, signed up on evite, please remember to wear your Class A (fancy duds) uniforms. No stage time, without the proper gear. Also, we'll behave like gentleman scouts, given that we'll have a big audience. No shyness either, we'll have fun together.
Scouts who did not sign up on the evite, but are going, feel free to join us. Come in your uniform.
Ada and I will be preparing a final list tomorrow before the event as you arrive. One by one, I'll be calling guys to the stage for individual rounds, along with a girl scout, and we'll read the numbers/letters.
We'll keep in moving along, just like Blue and Gold, so they can exit the MPR on time.
Sound like fun? It is. That's show biz!
Cubmaster John
B-I-N-G-O Night – “B” There, Fri Feb 24
Just a friendly reminder that coming up is the Coyote Creek PTA's annual bingo night.
Every year, we, the cubs of Pack 1776, are invited to help with the games, by actually calling out the letters and numbers at the big games. We team up with the Girl Scouts as well.
Committee Chair Steve Jackson and I will Emcee the event, and provide the tracking of the event, and we want as many scouts to come as possible, to join in the fun.
In the Friday Folder at school, you should have received the invitation to RSVP for the evening. The cost is $5 per attendee. If you are going, and want to join Steve and me, you must let us know (watch for an Evite), and wear your fancy class A uniforms. Move quickly, however, because the event sells out quickly.
Now is your chance to stand on the stage at the MPR, and talk through the microphone. Good training for you future game show hosts (or rock stars!) in the pack.
See you soon,
Cubmaster John
Here is the note from the Coyote Howler:

Coyote Creek Registration and Recruiting
Hello Scouts, Leaders and Parents!
Miss school yet? Well here's our chance to team up with the PTA and with the Girl Scouts on the School Registration Days, Thursday August 11 and Tuesday August 16.
Our Pack 1776 will have tables set up outside the MPR on Thursday, from 9:00 to 1:00, presenting information about our totally cool Cub Scout Pack 1776 to new guys who might be interested in joining our fun team. Den 8 Leader Ammy Pluth will be there, along with Webelos I Jack P, and your friendly, neighborhood Cub Master John, with his trusty guitar, of course.
If you are interested in hanging out with us, talking it up about cub scouting, singing songs, playing Bey Blades or frisbee and maybe even acting like ZOMBIES, then come out and join us in your Class A uniforms. Why not tell some new kids how fun scouting can be? Plus we'll pass out snacks and bottled waters.
On Tuesday August 16, we're back for the attack, at 3:30 to about 7:00.
I'm already proud of you scouts, make me even prouder by joining me, on the school, in our Class A uniforms.
Remember how much fun we had selling cotton candy and riding in the 4th of July Parade?
Well we're putting the band back together, and our next gig is Coyote Creek Elementary School. Time to rock and roll!
What kind of day will it be? A GREAT DAY FOR PACK 1776 SCOUTING!!!!
See you soon,
Cubmaster John
