How Much Does It Cost?
Why is our Pack such a great deal?
Cub Scouts runs year around. While our formal pack meetings take place August – May, Cub Scouts continues into the summer with Day Camp and pack outings, such as hikes and other fun events. Last Summer, recognizing that the majority of our scouts were housebound and had little opportunity to see their friends given the COVID pandemic, our Pack conducted virtual pack meetings in June and July. Several dens also continued with meetings during the summer.
Given Scouting typically runs all year, we think you get more for your dollar when compared to seasonal sports. For instance:
• Local Baseball: $255 or $355, price dependent on age group.
Typical regular season: January - May
• Local Soccer: $288 or $338 early sign up, price dependent on age group.
Typical season: August - November
Costs
Each Scout needs to obtain their own uniform and the personal gear needed to actively participate in the Pack's outdoor program. The Pack provides several major pieces of equipment necessary for the outdoor program, such as tents, stoves, and cooking gear, and the cost of buying, replacing, and repairing this equipment is shared by all Scouts in the Pack.
All scouts are expected to wear the official uniform at all scouting events, unless otherwise directed. We follow the waist-up uniforming. Refer to this Uniform Inspection Sheet for uniform details and official placement of insignia.
New Scouts will need to buy the following items:
- Cub Scout shirt
- Cub Scout belt - no uniform pants needed
- Cub Scout cap (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos)
- Cub Scout neckerchief (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos)
- Cub Scout neckerchief slide (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos)
- World Scout Crest Emblem
- Council shoulder patch
- "1776" Pack numerals & Den numeral patch
- Cub Scout Handbook (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos)
Upon joining, a Pack 1776 Class-B tee shirt will be provided for the Scout. These tee shirts are our casual uniform and are especially encouraged for siblings and parents. Scouts may wear this casual uniform at campouts, outings, and scout events where the official uniform could be damaged or soiled. These products are available for sale at selected Pack events typically at the beginning of the school year. Why do we wear uniforms?
The Cub Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. There are many reasons for this. One reason stands out above all the rest. We wear the uniform because it is a means of identifying ourselves openly with the principles to which we are committed-character development, citizenship training, and physical and mental fitness.
It is a way we give each other strength and support. It is a bond that ties us together in spite of our differences. It is a way of making visible our commitment to a belief in God, loyalty to country, and to helping other people.
The Scouting movement is built on positive values. As we wear the uniform, we are openly identifying ourselves with those values where everyone can see us. We stand together, not alone, in encouraging others to live by those same principles. Boys and adults alike should take pride in belonging to such a movement and wear the uniform as it is intended.

Pack 1776 requires an annual membership fee. This fee includes the cost to register with the Boys Scouts of America, the Council Program Fee, a one year subscription to Boy's Life magazine, a Pack 1776 Class B uniform tee shirt, award belt loops, pins and patches, leaders training, Pack insurance, equipment maintenance costs, venue booking costs, and expenses in events like Halloween Party, Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, etc. Boys Scouts of America charges an additional fee to new scouts, hence the slight increase between new scouts and those who have already been scouts.
In February, Scout families may be asked to participate in the Friends of Scouting charitable program which goes to support our Council and the National organization. Contribution is voluntary and any amount is welcome. Having a substantial up-front fee helps reinforce the commitment Scouts and parents are making to the Pack, and also encourages parents to have their children "keep with the program" to see the return from this investment.
